I created this piece for Canvas Arts & Ideas on FBi 94.5 about the Great Strike in 1917. Almost 6,000 employees at the Eveleigh Railway Workshops and the Randwick Tramsheds workers walked off the job in protest against a new time card system to monitor productivity. The strikers received strong support from the community and protests 100,00 people attended protest in The Domain. The strike did not achieve the workers’ demand but it was one of Australia’s first and biggest industrial actions and it shaped a generation of politicians.
The radio story was broadcast on August 27, 2017.
