I conceived this interactive multimedia story on typhoons in Hong Kong and took the early lead on its realisation while working as a journalist at the South China Morning Post. Typhoons regularly hit Hong Kong in the season that lasts between late May to mid-September. I was inspired to create the piece by an observation that Hong Kongers are apt to talk about the weather and when a storm sweeps through the territory, they avidly check news and weather reports and flood social media feeds with pictures and videos. The final piece includes pictures, videos and reports, from the newspaper’s archive, original interviews with meteorologists, storm chasers, academics and other experts.
The story appeared both in print and online and is regularly shared on social media during the annual typhoon season. It was the paper’s first major online multimedia piece. See the full story here: multimedia.scmp.com/typhoons
